A word from the developer…
What type of tools we are working on…
First I would like to explain how we are developing the tools and how they will be used. Tools will be created as modules that can be used singularly or as a part of a suite of tools under the “ACC” framework. This allows us as developers the chance to develop tools for specialized needs as well as collective needs.
Our first tool that will (if all goes according to plan) release on or a few days after December 20th, has been dubbed the “Stat Tracker” and will be a tool that allows you to plug in the stats from two pieces of gear and compare the outcome of a level 50 character. (It may have all level functionality but this is not a promise). In the grand scheme of things this tool is just a piece to the puzzle in a much larger picture. We look forward to bringing you updates and taking suggestions and feedback, so please feel free to send me an email to Jeff@swtortools.com.
Any general questions can be handled by emailing our Project Manager Matt@swtortools.com.
Why we chose to develop in C# instead of C++
For those of you who understand the difference between C++ anc C# please skip down to the short answer. For those of you who do not know the difference it does not matter all the same. C# based on the .NET framework is a rapid development language with the capability to run complex and very large applications. For many of the tools that will be developed for Star Wars the Old Republic, we will use windows forms as they can be modular so that certain applications will be able to be used with a suite of tools or as a stand alone tool. The idea is to create a standard for the community to build upon. The nature of C# allows us to not only add modules when needed but to run the modules singularly.
The short answer: Because Bioware has only released to a Windows platform, Mac users will need Boot-camp anyway to run the game allowing us the opportunity to write in a .NET language with high capabilities and low development time (Rapid development)
To the future…
We currently have many projects in the works and look forward to sharing these ideas and applications with you. We are still currently looking to bolster our team with a few hard working self starters, and would love to see you join the team. If interested please check out the Contribute page.
Thanks for stopping by, and don’t forget to follow us on twitter for the latest updates!…
